Wines certified Organic within the EU. Accredited and tested to have grown the grapes and produced wines without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or any other artificial chemicals.
A step further on from Organic, taking a very holistic natural approach to farming and the eco-system. This means both in the vineyard and the wine making, nature and it’s own processes are given the greatest respect. In the vineyard bio-diversity is encouraged and in the winery, nature helped to best express itself in the wine.
Low in Sulphur. The labelling ‘Contains Sulphites’ is a bit of a misnomer. Sulphites are naturally produced at low levels in the fermenation process. However, traditonally Sulphur has been used in the cleaning and wine making processes, which obviously increases the sulphur content many times. The label ‘Low Sulphur’ on wines, tend to be those made without the use of Sulphur.
In traditional wine making, egg whites were used to ‘fine’ the wine. This process has largely stopped in Organic wine production. Hence, most Organic wines are usually Vegan.
This however does not mean industrial wines are vegan if they use other methods of fining. Organic wines just use grapes, nothing else. Industrial wines???? Well it seems anything goes!
